AMVCA 2026: Gingerrr, The Herd Lead Nominees as Lagos Awaits May 9 Show

The 12th edition will be hosted by Bovi Ugboma and Nomzamo Mbatha. It features 32 categories, with Gingerrr and The Herd leading with nine nominations each, followed by To Kill A Monkey with eight nominations and My Father’s Shadow with seven nominations.

Organizers confirmed that this year’s edition includes:

• 32 award categories
• 18 jury-decided awards
• 11 audience-voted categories, and
• 3 special recognition awards
• New Indigenous Language film categories for North and Central Africa

The awards continue to recognize achievements in African film, television, and digital content creation.

According to their Blbrand manager Oyetola Akeredolu, their “philosophy is built on the world of unexpected expressions… young filmmakers are experimenting with new formats and storytelling methods.”

The brand is supporting the Best Digital Content Creator category and backed the Young Filmmakers Day, which focused on emerging talent and digital storytelling trends.
