End the Bloodshed Now – Tinubu Orders Plateau Leaders to Act, Approves N2bn for Victims

—

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged leaders in Plateau State to take decisive responsibility for ending the cycle of violence, declaring that peace must be urgently restored across the state.

At an interactive session held at the State House in Abuja with a 32-member Plateau delegation led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the President urged stakeholders to return home with open minds, review past White Papers on the crises, and propose practical, implementable solutions.

The meeting, which followed recent killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, brought together key political, traditional, and religious figures who identified indigeneship, religion, ethnicity, and farmer-herder clashes as major drivers of the recurring conflict. Participants, including youth representatives, pledged renewed commitment to peace.

In a major intervention, the Federal Government approved N2 billion in relief support for victims of the March 29 attack, a move announced by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

President Tinubu stressed that leaders must rise above divisions and ensure tolerance, warning against the recruitment of individuals to fuel violence. He called for accountability, urging authorities to identify and prosecute those instigating unrest.

Governor Mutfwang, in his remarks, described the meeting as a turning point, noting it was the first time all former governors of the state convened on such a matter. He pledged a united front to overcome divisions and rebuild Plateau’s legacy of peace and economic contribution.

Traditional rulers also weighed in, with the Gbong Gwom Jos calling for increased security deployment, installation of CCTV surveillance, and the creation of state police to tackle insecurity. He further appealed for support in returning displaced persons to their ancestral homes.

The session ended with a consensus among stakeholders that sincerity, justice, and inclusive governance remain critical to achieving lasting peace in Plateau State.
