Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has inaugurated a major empowerment initiative spearheaded by the senator representing Northern Borno, Mohammed Tahir Monguno, aimed at boosting livelihoods and mobility across the region.
The programme, launched in Maiduguri on Friday, saw the distribution of 13 GX Lexus SUVs to improve transportation along the challenging Sahara axis, alongside 60 mini Toyota pickup vans and 30 tricycles (Keke Napeps).
Commending the initiative, Governor Zulum praised Senator Monguno’s long-standing commitment to grassroots development, noting that such empowerment efforts date back over two decades to his time in the House of Representatives.
“This is not the first time the senator has embarked on such interventions. His contributions to the growth and development of Borno State are significant and far-reaching,” Zulum said.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to collaborate with federal lawmakers to deliver critical infrastructure and improve living standards in northern Borno and beyond.
He also revealed that approximately N15 billion has been allocated in the current budget for projects within Monguno’s senatorial district, describing it as a major boost to ongoing state development efforts.
In his remarks, Senator Monguno disclosed that he has facilitated 11 major projects valued at nearly N16 billion across northern Borno and Maiduguri metropolis.
He added that the projects, captured in the 2025 budget, include construction and furnishing initiatives designed to enhance public services and infrastructure in the region.
The empowerment programme is expected to ease transportation challenges, create economic opportunities, and support recovery efforts in communities affected by years of insecurity.
