The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has strongly denounced the recent killing of more than 30 residents in Jos, describing the incident as yet another grim chapter in the state’s prolonged crisis.

In a statement issued by its President, Baba Othman-Ngelzarma, the association lamented the recurring violence, noting that the tragedy underscores the persistent bloodletting that has plagued Plateau State for years. He stressed that the cycle of killings must be halted.

“We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and all those affected by this senseless violence.

“MACBAN views with grave concern the recurring cycle of violence in Plateau which continues to undermine peaceful coexistence and threaten national unity,” he said.

Othman-Ngelzarma expressed frustration over the entrenched divisions, distrust, and reprisals that have defined the state’s security challenges, insisting that the time had come to end the pattern.

He also raised concerns about the alleged involvement of certain religious figures and influencers in aggravating tensions.

“We are particularly disturbed by the alleged role played by some religious leaders and influencers.

“Instead of promoting peace and tolerance, they have chosen to fan the embers of division through reckless and inflammatory rhetoric.

“Such actions are irresponsible, dangerous, and contribute directly to the escalation of violence and intolerance in our communities.”

The MACBAN president stressed that faith leaders must champion unity rather than serve as catalysts for discord, urging all stakeholders to embrace dialogue and restraint in the interest of peace.

“Words matter. In fragile environments like ours, they can either heal or destroy.

“MACBAN also calls on security agencies to act decisively and professionally.

“Those responsible for instigating violence, whether through direct action or inciting statements, must be identified, investigated, and brought to justice without fear or favour. Impunity only emboldens further violence,” he said.

He further called for enhanced intelligence operations to track down perpetrators and their sponsors, while urging law enforcement to prosecute anyone found culpable, including religious leaders linked to incitement.

Othman-Ngelzarma also advocated increased security deployment in vulnerable areas to forestall further attacks.

“The sanctity of human life must remain non-negotiable. MACBAN reiterates its commitment to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and national unity.

“We stand ready to collaborate with all stakeholders, government, civil society, religious institutions, and community leaders to restore lasting peace in Plateau and across Nigeria.

“The time for decisive action is now. Enough of the bloodshed, Othman-Ngelzarma said.
