Governor Bala Mohammed has revealed that the Bauchi State Government has set aside N112.7 billion for the education sector in the 2026 fiscal year, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to strengthen human capital development.
Speaking on Saturday at the combined eighth, ninth and 10th convocation ceremony of Sa’adu Zungur University, the governor said the hefty allocation is designed to reposition education and accelerate growth across the state.
He stressed that education remains a transformative force for both individuals and society, noting that sustained investment in the sector is central to Bauchi’s long-term prosperity. According to him, the state has consistently devoted more than 15 per cent of its yearly budgets to education.
Mohammed disclosed that N58.02 billion of the 2026 allocation is dedicated to higher education, with N40.6 billion earmarked for capital projects, including the construction of classrooms, hostels, laboratories, ICT centres and staff housing.
Highlighting ongoing interventions at the university, he listed projects such as 20 new classrooms, hostel facilities at Gadau and Yuli campuses, staff quarters, and enhanced security infrastructure.
The governor also outlined policy measures aimed at strengthening the institution, including prompt salary payments, increased funding, scholarship schemes, reduction in registration fees and respect for the university’s autonomy.
He cautioned against actions capable of eroding academic standards, particularly drug abuse and sexual harassment, warning that offenders would be prosecuted.
“Universities must remain safe spaces for learning, dignity and growth,” he said.
Mohammed praised the management and staff of the institution for their commitment, noting that the university has continued to churn out graduates who contribute meaningfully to the state’s workforce.
He reiterated that his administration is focused on building a self-reliant state driven by a skilled and competitive population, while assuring continued government backing for the university’s pursuit of academic excellence.
