MTN Nigeria Profit Surges 75% to N1.09tn in H1 2026

MTN Nigeria recorded a major earnings jump in the first half of 2026, with profit before tax rising 75.4 percent to N1.09 trillion as strong data demand and lower borrowing costs boosted performance.

The telecoms conglomerate’s revenue also grew by 25.9 percent to N2.99 trillion, while profit after tax (PAT) soared 70.6 percent to N707.5 billion, according to the unaudited results filed with the Nigerian Exchange.

In addition, The News Chronicle reports that MTN gained 4.9 million new subscribers, bringing the total number of customers to 92.2 million, while active data users grew to 55.7 million.

Also, data revenue was the fastest-growing stream, climbing by 38.3 percent to N1.70 trillion, accounting for over half of total revenue, followed by voice revenue that grew by 15 percent to N897.1 billion.

More so, operating profit also jumped by 41.9 percent to N1.27 trillion, while interest bearing borrowings dropped by 35.1 percent to N342.6 billion.

MTN also spent N620.5 billion on capital expenditure in developing its network, while free cash flow also surged by 73.9 percent to N712.7 billion.

The impressive figures led the board to declare an interim dividend of N26 per share, which is due to be paid on September 7, 2026.
