The Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State has launched an investigation into the mysterious death of a teenage boy whose lifeless body was recovered from a swimming pool at the University of Ibadan.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Ibadan.
According to Olayinka, details obtained from the institution’s Chief Security Officer indicated that the victim, believed to be between 14 and 15 years old, was found floating on the surface of the pool in the early hours of Thursday.
He explained that detectives promptly arrived at the scene, where initial observations showed blood coming from the victim’s mouth and nose, alongside minor injuries around the nose.
The police further revealed that personal items thought to belong to the deceased, including footwear and a shirt, were discovered near the pool area, while traces of blood were also noticed within the pavilion.
The body was subsequently taken to the General Hospital Adeoyo, where he was confirmed dead on arrival before being moved to the mortuary.
Olayinka noted that the incident is being handled as a suspected murder, adding that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
He appealed to the public to stay calm and avoid circulating unverified reports while the police continue their inquiry.
