No More Vagabonds in PDP— Makinde Blasts Wike Over Oyo Politics

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has taken a swipe at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his recent remarks on the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.

The News Chronicle recalls that Wike had on Monday, February 2, declared that he was “particularly interested” in the PDP structure in Oyo State, a comment widely seen as a challenge to Makinde, the recognised leader of the party in the state.

The FCT minister made the statement while addressing a meeting of the PDP National Executive Council, insisting that Oyo’s party structure was of special interest to him above all others.

Makinde, who has been at political odds with Wike, dismissed the comments as misplaced and unnecessary, insisting that the PDP in Oyo remains stable, united, and focused.

Speaking on Tuesday at the commissioning of a new PDP secretariat in the state, the governor delivered a scathing response, accusing certain elements of attempting to stir trouble where none exists.

“In Yorubaland, we say when a house is peaceful, it means the vagabond in that house has not grown up,” Makinde said. “The vagabonds in the PDP grew up in 2015. They had their time. For 10 years, they practiced their vagabondism at the party, and they were expelled in November 2025. There is no more vagabond in the PDP.”

The governor also questioned Wike’s moral authority to comment on the Oyo PDP, challenging him to account for his influence in his home state.

“Someone says he is interested in the PDP in Oyo State. Ask him what he has done for the PDP in Rivers State, where he comes from,” Makinde added.

Makinde’s remarks underscore deepening tensions within the PDP, as internal power struggles continue to play out ahead of future political contests.
