Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has reaffirmed his commitment to helping Nigeria lift the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in Morocco, insisting his full focus remains on the task ahead.
The Atalanta forward has been one of Nigeria’s standout performers at the tournament, scoring three goals so far and playing a key role in the Super Eagles’ attacking dominance.
Despite Algeria deploying a man-marking strategy to neutralise him in their last outing, Nigeria found other routes to goal, with Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams netting twice to seal victory.
Speaking to Footy Africa ahead of Wednesday’s semi-final clash against hosts Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Lookman said personal accolades mean little compared to national success.
“I’m always focused on the present and, at the moment, the present is being here in Morocco for AFCON and trying to help my country win the tournament,” Lookman said. “All the experiences are in the past.”
Nigeria head into the semi-final as the tournament’s highest scorers, having recorded 14 goals in five matches, while conceding just four and keeping two clean sheets.
The Super Eagles’ attacking threat has been driven by Osimhen, Lookman and Alex Iwobi, with strong support from Akor Adams.
Midfield balance and leadership have come from Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka, while the defensive unit of Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has provided stability.
With confidence high and momentum building, Lookman and his teammates will be aiming to overcome Morocco and move one step closer to adding another AFCON title to Nigeria’s rich football history.
