CBN, Finance Ministry Move to Clear Super Eagles AFCON Bonuses Ahead of Algeria Clash

The National Sports Commission has confirmed that the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Ministry of Finance are finalising arrangements to release bonuses and financial entitlements due to the Super Eagles at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko addressed concerns following reports of possible player unrest ahead of Saturday’s quarter final meeting with Algeria in Marrakech. Nigeria sealed qualification with a commanding 4 0 win over Mozambique in the round of 16.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, Dikko said President Bola Tinubu approved the full AFCON 2025 budget on November 14, 2025, covering player incentives and team logistics. He explained that while approval was secured early, the disbursement process requires procedural clearance before funds are released.

The News Chronicle understands that the Ministry of Finance and the CBN are currently coordinating payment timelines to ensure all outstanding bonuses are settled without disruption to the team’s campaign.

Dikko noted that the NSC and Nigeria Football Federation held detailed consultations with the team leadership before the tournament, agreeing on bonus structures through to the final. According to him, players are fully aware of their entitlements at every stage.

He added that daily allowances requested in cash have already been paid, while match bonuses are approved and undergoing processing.

The Super Eagles, unbeaten so far with 12 goals scored, are expected to travel from Fès to Marrakech on Thursday ahead of the decisive encounter with Algeria.
