NEWS FLASH: Bomb Blast Claims Lives of Eight Soldiers in Damasak, Borno

Eight Nigerian soldiers have been confirmed dead and five others injured following an improvised explosive device (IED) attack on an army convoy in Damasak, the headquarters of Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources said the incident occurred on Sunday when the convoy was on routine operational movement along a key axis in the area. The IED, allegedly planted by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), detonated as the convoy passed, causing significant casualties.

The injured soldiers were said to have been evacuated to a military medical facility, where they are currently receiving treatment. Their condition was not immediately disclosed.

Damasak and surrounding communities have remained flashpoints of insurgent activities, with ISWAP increasingly resorting to the use of landmines and IEDs to target military patrols and logistics convoys.

Military authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the attack, but security operations in the area have reportedly been intensified to track down the perpetrators and prevent further incidents.
