Cyber Security Authority Arrests Abu Trica in Major Romance-Scam Investigation

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has arrested Frederick Kumi, popularly known online as Abu Trica, during a coordinated operation at his residence in Swedru. The operation was led by Divine Selase Agbeti, a senior official of the Authority.

According to officials involved in the case, the arrest followed several months of intelligence-gathering into a suspected romance-scam network believed to have defrauded victims in the United States of up to 8 million dollars. Investigators say the network mainly targeted elderly victims through online communication.

The predawn raid began when CSA officers and supporting police units secured all entry points to the house.
“We moved in after confirming the presence of the individuals we had been monitoring,” a member of the operation stated. Officers then restrained three men, including Abu Trica, who was at home at the time.

During the search, agents seized digital devices and photographed items they say may be relevant to the investigation. The CSA reported that the findings would be examined with the support of international law-enforcement partners.

U.S. authorities have confirmed that a federal jury returned a two-count indictment against Frederick Kumi for alleged involvement in a criminal group responsible for large-scale online fraud since 2023.

The arrest has drawn public attention due to Kumi’s reputation as a social media personality, known for displaying luxury cars, houses, and cash. Videos of the operation circulated widely on social platforms within hours of the raid.

Ghanaian lawyer and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor commented on the case, saying he was prepared to oppose Kumi’s extradition to the United States.
“Extradition must not be handled selectively. I will challenge any unfair process,” he said, referring to ongoing debates about other high-profile investigations in the country.

The CSA stated that further information will be released after the seized devices are examined and the suspects are formally processed.
