Army, Correctional Service Forge Tougher Front in Edo

The new helmsman of the 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Balogun has vowed to tighten the bolts of cooperation with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Edo, signalling a renewed united front in the state’s security architecture.

This resolution was revealed in a statement issued on Friday in Benin by the NCoS Public Relations Officer, S. C. Aminu Suleman.

Balogun, during a courtesy call on the State Controller of the Correctional Service, Sunday Oyakhire, said the visit was intended to cement ties and further oil the wheels of existing cooperation between the army and the correctional service.

He stressed that the mandate carried by the NCoS remained a linchpin of national security, noting that “the work is not a walk in the park” and cannot be left to one agency alone.

“I am willing to collaborate and support the efforts of the Correctional Service at all times so we can collectively achieve the security mandate of keeping our society safe and secure,” he said.

Responding, Controller Oyakhire applauded the brigade commander’s early visit, describing it as a clear sign of renewed commitment to inter-agency teamwork. He noted that the outgoing brigade commander had been equally supportive and understanding.

He assured that the existing working relationship between both security outfits would not only be maintained but further strengthened to withstand the winds of emerging threats.

Oyakhire also briefed the brigade commander on custodial facilities across the state, detailing their locations, operational reach, and ongoing reforms geared towards safe custody, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates.

“Every government agency has its own constitutional mandate, and there is the need to collaborate to achieve the desired goals,” he said.

He reaffirmed that sustained synergy remains the backbone of Edo’s security progress.
