Let’s settle this once and for all. Nobody said Nigerian Muslims are carrying out genocide on Christians. Nobody. What we said clearly, loudly, and without stutter is that terrorists are the ones butchering Christians in cold blood. Somehow, somewhere, that very straightforward statement got dragged, stretched, and manipulated into a tired narrative of Muslims killing Christians.
How did we get here? How did basic comprehension suddenly become a luxury?
The people who should be responding to these accusations, the terrorists, the killers, the faceless cowards hiding behind guns and ideologies, are conveniently silent. Meanwhile, innocent Muslims, who were never summoned, are suddenly on the frontlines defending themselves against allegations that were never directed at them in the first place.
Here they come, diving into a conversation that never called their name, performing unsolicited outrage, inserting themselves in an equation that was never about them. It is the classic Nigerian busybody syndrome, a national pastime where people rush to defend what nobody attacked and argue what nobody said.
But this is not one of those times where mischief can pass as misunderstanding. This is gaslighting, deliberate, calculated, and exhausting.
Christians are bleeding. Families are burying loved ones. Communities are disappearing. These are not abstract problems, not imaginary stories told for effect. This is the daily reality of people who sleep lightly because death roams freely at night. Yet instead of confronting the real perpetrators, we are forced to peel away layers of distortion created by people who feel personally accused when terrorism is mentioned.
Why?
Why should innocent Muslims rush to defend terrorists? Why should they feel attacked by a crime they did not commit? Why is the word terrorist suddenly translated to Muslim in some people’s heads? It is unfair. It is dishonest. And it is dangerous.
Are all terrorists Muslims? Yes.
Are all Muslims terrorists? Absolutely not.
One group is murdering Nigerians. The other group is simply existing. So why are innocent Muslims catching feelings for crimes committed by men who do not even represent them? That is the simple truth. Give the truth the space it deserves and do not confuse categories that are clearly not the same. The actions of terrorists should never be placed on innocent Muslims who want peace and have nothing to do with violence.
If the shoe does not fit, why are you forcing it onto your leg?
But the part that truly irritates the soul is this sudden, dramatic passion for protest. Where was this energy when whole communities were wiped out? Where were your placards when innocent Nigerians were roasted alive in their own homes? Where was this courage when children were kidnapped from schools? Where was this outrage when villages were turned into burial grounds?
People were slaughtered in the night, burnt in their sleep, and the country moved on like it was just a weather report. Nobody marched. Nobody rioted. Nobody blocked roads demanding justice for those whose names we did not even bother to learn.
But let America cough, or Trump sneeze, or one foreign headline trend, suddenly everybody remembers how to protest. Nigeria becomes quiet only when Nigerians die.
But let anything happen abroad, and we switch from silence to full activism like a generator changing to NEPA light.
It is embarrassing. It is revealing. And it shows where some people’s loyalty truly lies, not to humanity, not to their fellow citizens, but to selective outrage that only wakes up when it suits them.
Stop letting lies dictate the conversation. Pull back from the false narratives. Step away from the manipulation. Focus on the real issue. Terrorists, not Muslims, are the problem. Innocent Nigerians are the victims. And selective outrage is part of what keeps this country stuck in the same cycle of violence and denial.
Nigeria has suffered enough divisions. We do not need fresh ones manufactured out of thin air. What we need is clarity, honesty, and the courage to call evil by its name without fear of who chooses to take it personally.
The terrorists should be the ones issuing statements. The terrorists should be the ones responding. The terrorists and only the terrorists should be the ones answering for genocide.
Enough with the selective outrage. Stop the emotional gymnastics. No need for needless defensiveness. And most importantly:
STOP GASLIGHTING US.
This table is not yours. Nobody invited you. Pull your chair back and let the truth breathe.
