Kano Palace Rejects Carry-Over Claim, Says Sanusi’s First-Class Goal Intact

The Kano Emirate Council has dismissed a viral social media video claiming that Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II failed one of his law courses at Northwest University, Kano.
The video, which circulated widely on social media on Sunday, alleged that the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor had obtained a carry-over in one of his courses and could be at risk of failing to meet the requirements for his law degree.
Sanusi is currently a 200-level student of the Bachelor of Laws programme in Common Law and Sharia at the university.
However, Muhammad Ado, Secretary in the Office of the Emir, described the claim as false, insisting that Sanusi remains on course to graduate with a first-class degree.

According to Ado, the Emirate Council’s calculations indicate that the Emir needs only one additional point to attain a first-class result.
“It’s not true. In our calculations, it remains only one point for the Emir to attain first class,” Ado said.
He explained that the video was recorded during a programme organised by law students at the university on Saturday and was subsequently circulated on social media.
Ado further disclosed that Sunday Dare, a visiting lecturer, was present at the event where the video was recorded.
A student of the university, Ibrahim Abubakar-Danmasani, also rejected the claim, saying examinations had not commenced at the institution as of Sunday and were expected to begin on Monday.
Sources within the university reportedly corroborated the Emirate Council’s position, stating that the viral video did not accurately reflect Sanusi’s academic standing.
The sources attributed the video to some youths who allegedly recorded and circulated it as a prank.
The Kano Emirate Council has therefore maintained that Emir Sanusi II remains on track to achieve his ambition of graduating with a first-class law degree.
