Jos Trader Lands 6 Months Behind Bars

A Magistrate’s Court in Jos has sentenced a 22-year-old trader, Abubakar Adam, to six months in prison for possessing illegal drugs and causing public disorder.

The Magistrate Irene Pati handed down the sentence after the accused pleaded guilty to the charges. However, the court gave him an option to pay a fine of N30,000 instead of serving the jail term.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on October 10 at the Angwan Rogo Police Station by one Mohammed Adam, the complainant.

According to Gokwat, the convict took hard drugs, returned home, and threatened to kill his mother before being apprehended by a vigilante officer and his elder brother.

The prosecutor further stated that a search conducted on the convict led to the discovery of more drugs in his possession.

He said the offences violated the provisions of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
