Shettima Fully Supports Tinubu on Rivers State Intervention, No Division- Presidency

The Presidency has debunked claims that Vice President Kashim Shettima took a swipe at President Bola Tinubu over the handling of the political crisis in Rivers State.

Speculation erupted after Shettima, speaking at a book launch in Abuja on Thursday, July 10, praised former top officials who resisted an alleged attempt by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to oust him as Borno governor during the Chibok abduction crisis.

Shettima recounted how ex-Attorney General Mohammed Adoke and former Speaker Aminu Tambuwal had stood their ground, insisting Jonathan lacked the constitutional power to remove an elected governor.

The remarks sparked online buzz, with some interpreting them as a veiled critique of Tinubu’s recent suspension of Rivers Governor Sim Fubara.

But in a swift rebuttal, Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media (Office of the Vice President), dismissed the claims as a “gross misrepresentation.”

He stressed that Vice President Shettima is fully aligned with President Tinubu’s decisions regarding the political standoff in Rivers.

“There is no ambiguity, Vice President Shettima stands solidly with the President,” Nkwocha said.
