No Vacancy In Labour Party, I Remain National Chair — Abure Declares Amid Supreme Court Verdict

In his first public appearance following the Supreme Court’s ruling last Friday, National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, on Monday asserted that there is no leadership vacuum in the party.

Abure made the statement during a press conference held at the party’s national secretariat, ahead of a scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

He emphasized that the Supreme Court’s decision reaffirmed the principle of party supremacy and underscored that internal party affairs remain the exclusive domain of political parties.

“There is no vacancy in our party,” Abure declared. “In the Labour Party, we do not betray our candidates, even though some have betrayed us after we gave them tickets.”

While addressing the recent internal tensions, Abure took a veiled swipe at the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, suggesting that both had distanced themselves from the party after benefiting from its platform.

He also dismissed interpretations suggesting that the Supreme Court ruling had invalidated his chairmanship. “We urge those misled by last week’s inaccurate interpretation of the judgment to disregard such speculation. I remain the National Chairman of the Labour Party,” he stated.

Abure further clarified that the LP’s constitution does not provide for the formation of a caretaker committee, calling any such move unconstitutional and unauthorized.

Air Force Destroys Boko Haram Logistics Hub, Neutralises Fighters in Precision Strike in Borno

The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI has intensified its offensive against terrorist groups in Nigeria's North-East, destroying a major terrorist enclave and logistics hub during a precision airstrike in Borno State. According to Intelligence sources the operation was carried out at about 2:40 p.m. on Friday, July 10, targeting Yaganari, a notorious terrorist stronghold within the Gezuwa general area. According to the sources, the location had recently become a regrouping point where insurgents were consolidating fighters and logistics for planned attacks. The strike followed credible intelligence indicating heightened terrorist activities in the area. Military intelligence reportedly conducted persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions to verify the information before authorising the engagement. A source said surveillance assets confirmed the presence of multiple terrorist structures, logistics facilities and visible movement of insurgents within the target area. Following confirmation, Air Component aircraft carried out a series of precision strikes, accurately engaging the designated targets in successive attack runs. The operation reportedly destroyed the identified terrorist structures, obliterated logistics hubs and neutralised several insurgents operating within the enclave. Military sources described the mission as a significant blow to terrorist operations in the North-East, noting that the destruction of the logistics infrastructure would further weaken the insurgents' ability to coordinate attacks and sustain their activities. The operation underscores the military's continued reliance on intelligence-driven precision airstrikes to dismantle terrorist command centres, safe havens and supply networks, while supporting ongoing ground operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI. Security sources added that a battle damage assessment is ongoing to determine the full extent of the impact of the strike, while intensified aerial surveillance has been deployed over the area to prevent surviving terrorists from regrouping.
