Nigeria’s Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) is exploring deeper collaboration with France to push its satellite technology development.
Managing Director Jane Egerton-Idehen expressed this ambition during a meeting with the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Marc Fonbaustier, noting the growing potential for joint ventures in space technology.
While the visit was largely ceremonial, it marked a step forward in strengthening ties between the two nations, especially in the satellite sector.
Egerton-Idehen recognized France’s prominent role in space innovation through companies such as Eutelsat and Thales, with the goal of fostering partnerships to accelerate Nigeria’s satellite goals.
She pointed out that sharing knowledge and expertise with international leaders would help Nigeria advance its space capabilities.
The NIGCOMSAT MD also emphasized the transformative power of satellite technology in sectors like agriculture, education, and healthcare, helping to enhance connectivity and sustainability.
With the global space economy expected to reach $1.1 trillion by 2040, collaboration with countries like France could significantly boost Nigeria’s position in this growing sector.
Egerton-Idehen noted that such partnerships are crucial in making strides toward an innovative space economy that benefits Nigerians and the world at large.
