Abimbola Craig on Marriage, Independence, and Life’s Toughest Lessons

Nigerian actress and film producer Abimbola Craig has stirred up conversations by describing marriage as a “scam.”

Her candid remarks, made during an interview with Chude Jideonwo, shed light on her perspective about traditional marital roles and their inherent inequalities.

Craig challenged the societal norms surrounding marriage, particularly the burdens placed on women. While her views may raise eyebrows, her stance isn’t about rejecting the institution entirely.

Instead, she emphasized the importance of finding a partner who is self-aware and purposeful.

Marriage is an institution,” Craig shared, recalling her mother’s humorous take on the term “Mrs.”

According to her, the title translates to Master’s in Residential Servicing a witty yet telling critique of how women are often expected to prioritize domestic responsibilities in marriage.

But let’s get one thing straight; she isn’t anti-marriage. In fact, her single status has less to do with rejecting the idea of matrimony and more to do with her high standards.

For Craig, a man who lacks self-awareness or a clear purpose simply isn’t a match.

This bold perspective aligns with her strong, independent persona.

Known for her stellar performance in the hit series Skinny Girl in Transit and her work as a co-producer of the 2019 blockbuster Sugar Rush, Craig continues to inspire both on and off-screen.

Beyond her professional achievements, Craig has also shown resilience in her personal life.

Earlier this year, she opened up about a harrowing near-death experience following brain surgery in 2014 a testament to her strength and determination.
