Nigerian Navy Officer Shoots Colleague After Dispute in Zamfara State 

A Nigerian Navy officer, identified as Leading Seaman (LS) Akila, reportedly shot and killed a fellow officer during an argument in Dansadau, Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State, the incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Friday.

Both officers were stationed at Team 3, previously part of Operation Hadarin Daji and recently renamed Operation Sheto Yanma. A report states that following a dispute, LS Akila opened fire on his colleague.

According to a witness, “This morning around 6 a.m., two naval personnel were arguing, and one ended up shooting the other at Team 3 in the Dansadau community.”

Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the incident, stating, “On October 25, at about 3:12 a.m, a naval officer, LS Akila A., deployed at FOB Dansadau for Operation Fansan Yamma, opened fire under questionable circumstances, resulting in the death of a military colleague. He has since been arrested, disarmed, and detained, and an investigation is underway.”

After the investigation, LS Akila will face a court martial. Maj. Gen. Buba added that the family of the deceased is being notified and that the victim’s name will be released once this process is complete. He urged the media to report cautiously, out of respect for the family’s privacy.
