Starlink Halts Price Increase Amid Regulatory Issues in Nigeria

—

Starlink, the satellite internet service owned by Elon Musk, has decided to halt its recent subscription price hike for Nigerian customers due to ongoing regulatory challenges.

This decision comes after a substantial increase in the monthly fee for its standard residential package, which soared from N38,000 to N75,000—a 97.37% jump.

The price of Starlink’s hardware also rose from N440,000 to N590,000.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has raised concerns regarding Starlink’s failure to obtain necessary approvals before altering its subscription rates, prompting the NCC to initiate a pre-enforcement action against the company.

In a notice to its customers, Starlink acknowledged the suspension of the price increase while addressing the regulatory issues.

The company indicated that customers who were charged the higher rate would receive a one-time credit to adjust their accounts.

Starlink reassured users of its dedication to providing high-speed internet services in Nigeria but emphasized the need for regulatory cooperation to enhance customer experience.

Additionally, updates on Starlink’s website show that the standard residential plan has reverted to N38,000, while the mobile regional plan is now priced at N50,000, down from N167,000. The hardware price remains unchanged at N590,000.
