Tackling Obesity: China Sets Standardised Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment

China’s National Health Commission has introduced its first set of guidelines aimed at standardising the diagnosis and treatment of obesity.

In recent years, the country has seen a significant increase in the rates of overweight and obesity, as highlighted in the commission’s report.

Obesity is recognized not only as an independent disease but also as a major contributor to various chronic health conditions, making it a pressing public health concern in China.

The guidelines indicate that obesity is the sixth leading risk factor for death and disability in the country. Experts point out that the majority of obesity cases stem from unhealthy lifestyle choices.

To address this issue, the key solution lies in promoting a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet and regular physical activity to help maintain a healthy weight.
