TikTok Removes Millions of Videos in Nigeria Over Policy Violation

In the second quarter of 2024, TikTok took significant action by removing over 2.1 million videos in Nigeria for violating its community guidelines.

This initiative is part of the platform’s ongoing strategy to improve content moderation and ensure a safer environment for its users.

According to TikTok’s Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, the deleted videos represent less than 1 percent of the total uploads during the reporting period.

Notably, the vast majority—99.1 percent—were removed proactively before any user reports were made, with 90.7 percent taken down within a day of being uploaded.

On a global scale, TikTok reported the removal of over 178 million videos in June 2024, with automated systems facilitating 144 million of these actions.

The platform has reached a proactive detection rate of 98.2 percent worldwide, reflecting its commitment to addressing harmful content before users encounter it.

In its efforts to enhance transparency and safety, TikTok plans to continue investing in technologies that improve content moderation and better understand potential risks.

The company said it remains dedicated to fostering a secure platform for its diverse user base in Nigeria and around the globe.
