Academy to Partner Anambra Education Ministry on Skills Acquisition

Agulu Peoples Union (APU) Vocational Academy Limited has solicited the collaboration of the Ministry of Education, Anambra State on skills acquisition of youths in the state.

Director of the Academy, Dr Duezeh Emmanuel Jnr dropped the hint over the weekend during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh in her office.

Duezeh, accompanied by footwear production instructor Erondu Kingsley, said the Academy, established last year, has been training youths on no fewer than ten areas of vocational skills.

He listed the skills to include nylon making, footwear, bags, baking confectionery, electrical, plumbing, tailoring, hairdressing, and furniture, among others.

He said, “We run different vocations, some within the school and others outside. The Town Union pays for the training which runs for a year and six months after which trainees will sit for exams.

“We have about ten courses on the whole and we’re here to see how we can partner with the Ministry in skills acquisition for youths in the state.

“October 25th is our grand opening of the Centre which will feature the induction of the students.”

Responding, the Commissioner commended the management of the Academy for its vision of empowering young people, assuring of the Ministry’s partnership.

“We commend you for this very wonderful initiative. We will partner with you to ensure more youths in the state are gainfully empowered,” she added.
