Microsoft Sacks 650 Workers From Gaming Department

Microsoft has announced the layoff of 650 employees from its gaming division, marking the latest wave of job cuts for the tech giant.

This move comes just eight months after Microsoft laid off 1,900 employees, reflecting ongoing adjustments within the company.

The layoffs are tied to Microsoft’s $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

In a memo, Xbox chief Phil Spencer explained that the restructuring is part of an effort to realign teams to ensure long-term success.

Despite the cuts, no games, devices, experiences, or studios will be canceled or closed this time, in contrast to the last round, which saw the closure of studios like Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin.

This restructuring marks a significant shift in how Microsoft integrates its newly acquired assets without disrupting its core operations.
