The Premier League season, which officially began yesterday, saw three top teams—Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal—register victories against their opponents in the first week of the season.
The season commenced with Manchester United playing host to Fulham FC, who were resilient but fell to a narrow defeat just three minutes before the end of regular time. Joshua Zirkzee, who arrived at Old Trafford from Bologna, scored the decisive goal in a delicate moment for the Red Devils.
Prior to the game, Manchester United unveiled their four summer transfers: Leny Yoro, who was on crutches; Joshua Zirkzee, who scored the only goal and was voted the man of the match; and Mazraoui and De Ligt, who joined from Bayern Munich.
Liverpool faced newly promoted Ipswich Town in the early kickoff scheduled for today. Despite failing to score in the first 45 minutes, the Reds secured all three points after regular time following sublime strikes from Jota and Salah. Salah’s goal against Ipswich was his ninth goal on the opening weekend of a Premier League season, more than anyone else in the competition’s history.
Goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka saw Arsenal through against Wolves in their first game of the season.
Other games in the Premier League today included Brighton earning a huge 3-0 victory away at Everton, who were reduced to ten men after Young was sent off in the 66th minute.
Despite being a man down, Newcastle edged Southampton by a lone goal, while Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth settled for a 1-1 draw.
