Bayero University, Kano Resumes Academic Activities as Curfew is Relaxed

—

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has announced the resumption of full academic activities following the relaxation of the curfew by the Kano State Government.

The curfew, which had been imposed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., was put in place due to the unrest stemming from the #EndBadGovernance protests.

The university’s spokesperson, Lamara Garba, made the announcement on Wednesday evening, indicating that the situation had stabilized enough to allow for the continuation of academic work.

Garba stated, “The Management has directed all staff to resume normal duty. Lectures and other academic activities are to resume with caution. However, all university activities should end by 5:00 p.m. pending further development.”

This decision comes after a temporary suspension of operations at the university due to the protests, which had led to widespread looting and the loss of lives in the state.

In response to the unrest, authorities imposed a curfew to control the situation, which has now been eased following improvements in security and the resumption of business activities in Kano.

Garba emphasized that all heads of departments and units are to ensure strict compliance with the new directives.

The university management urges caution, with academic and administrative activities needing to conclude by 5:00 p.m. to align with the state’s current security measures.

The #EndBadGovernance protest, which prompted the initial curfew, saw protesters dispersed after incidents of looting and property destruction.

With the recent relaxation of movement restrictions, Bayero University, Kano is taking steps to ensure a cautious and orderly return to normalcy.
