Yobe State Governor Commends Security Forces for Professionalism During Nationwide Protests

Yobe State Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni has praised the security organizations for their mature and professional handling of the recent nationwide protests within the state.

The commendation was made during a security council meeting on Wednesday, where heads of various security agencies gathered to review the security situation following the protests.

During the meeting, the council expressed concern over the emergence of hoodlums and criminals who took advantage of the protests to carry out acts of destruction and looting.

These incidents occurred in the towns of Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru, leading to the imposition of curfews in these areas.

The council urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their wards to prevent them from being manipulated into participating in destructive activities.

It also called upon traditional rulers, religious leaders, and opinion leaders to promote peace and peaceful coexistence.

The council emphasized the importance of these leaders in supporting government efforts to maintain peace and security across the state.

Governor Buni highlighted that everyone has a role to play in peacebuilding and urged the public to support security agencies by providing timely and useful information about any suspicious individuals or activities in their communities.

He also advised the public to be vigilant and report any cases of illicit transactions, including drug trafficking, sales, and consumption of prohibited substances.

“The council recognized everyone as a stakeholder in peacebuilding and should support security agencies with timely and useful information on all suspicious persons and movements in their localities. Similarly, the public is hereby advised to be vigilant and report cases of illicit transactions including trafficking, sales, and consumption of prohibited drugs,” the governor stated.

Governor Buni assured the security agencies of the state government’s continuous support and called for a proactive approach to maintaining security.

He stressed that Yobe State, having emerged from protracted security challenges, cannot afford to face new forms of violence and insecurity.

In response, the heads of the security agencies pledged their increased dedication to ensuring sustainable security across the state.
