Manchester United has announced the signing of Leny Yoro from Lille in France for €70m, including add-ons. The 18-year-old defender signed a contract keeping him at Old Trafford until June 2029.
“Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Leny Yoro has joined the club, subject to registration. The French defender has signed a contract until June 2029, with the option to extend for a further year.”
Leny Yoro expressed his excitement, saying, “Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honour. From my first conversations with the club, they laid out a clear plan for my development and showed great care for me and my family. Knowing the history of young players at Manchester United, I believe it is the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions with my new teammates. I cannot wait to get started.”
Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth added, “Leny is one of the most exciting young defenders in world football; he possesses every attribute needed to develop into a top-class centre-back. After an excellent start to his career, we are excited to support him in reaching his immense potential here at Manchester United. This club has a fantastic record of developing young players, whether homegrown or brought in from elsewhere, and providing them with the necessary guidance, time, and patience to grow and flourish. Under Erik ten Hag and our excellent staff, we will ensure Leny has the perfect platform to achieve the success that everyone at the club is aiming for.”
Leny Yoro began his career at the Lille academy and has already played 60 first-team games for Lille OSC. Last season, he was named in the Ligue 1 team of the season, helping his club finish fourth in the league.
