Microsoft Increases Online Security with Passkeys

—

In response to a surge in password attacks, Microsoft has unveiled a groundbreaking solution: passkeys.
These passkeys, available for all consumer accounts, allow users to access their accounts without relying on traditional passwords.
With hackers launching attacks at a rate of 4,000 per second, passwords have proven vulnerable, prompting the need for a more secure authentication method.
Passkeys represent a significant milestone in passwordless authentication, offering users the option to create keys using facial recognition, fingerprint scans, PINs, or security keys.
Stored on both the user’s device and the corresponding app or website, passkeys utilize a cryptographic key pair, making them resistant to phishing attempts.
This move towards passwordless authentication aligns with a broader trend among tech giants, with Google and Meta (WhatsApp) also implementing support for passkeys.
Furthermore, Microsoft, Google, and Apple are collaborating to establish a common passwordless sign-in standard, ensuring seamless integration across platforms.
