Liverpool’s 2024-25 Champions League Qualification Secured

—

Liverpool FC has secured qualification for the Champions League in the 2024-25 season following Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.

The Reds are now mathematically guaranteed a top-four finish in the Premier League and a return to the Champions League after missing out on the tournament last season.

A new format has been confirmed for the tournament starting from next season, with the current 32-team group phase being replaced by a new league format including 36 clubs.

Each side will play eight matches against eight different teams – four at home and four away – between September and January.

The top eight finishers in the league phase will advance directly to the last 16, while sides placed ninth to 24th will contest two-legged playoffs to reach the knockout stage.

Liverpool’s second title hope was ruined following their late poor run in the league. Liverpool blew away a five-point lead at the summit of the English Premier League table with just seven games to conclude the season, leaving Arsenal and Manchester City to compete in a two-horse race.

Liverpool has identified Arne Slot as Jürgen Klopp’s successor, and his unveiling will be done in the coming days. Klopp announced his exit a few weeks ago after his nine-year voyage that began in 2015 with the Reds.
