Plateau plans to distribute 2.9 million mosquito nets to its citizens

In Plateau State, lots of special nets that stop mosquitoes will be given to people. These nets have medicine in them that kills mosquitoes. This is to help stop malaria, which is a sickness that mosquitoes spread.

Dr. Olusola Adeoye from Breakthrough Action Nigeria talked about this in Jos. She said they will give out 2.9 million nets.

They went to talk about it with Musa Ashoms, who works for the government. He said malaria is a big problem in Plateau State. He also said they want to fix it and help people.

Dr. Adeoye said they are giving out the nets because many people in Plateau State get malaria.

She said a survey showed that 1 out of every 5 people in Plateau State has malaria. But she said if people sleep under these special nets every night, they won’t get malaria.

“We’re here because of malaria, malaria still remains a big challenge in the state. As of the last survey that was conducted in Nigeria, the prevalence of malaria in Plateau State was 19%, which means one out of every 5 cases is malaria.”

The government and some organizations are helping with this. The United States and the UK are giving money to help buy the nets. They want to make sure every home in Plateau State has at least one net.

Musa Ashoms, the government worker, said they are happy for this help. He said malaria is a big problem and it has hurt many people.

He said the government is determined to fix many problems, including malaria. He also said everyone should use the nets, even old people and kids.

The governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, is happy about this plan. He wants to help make sure it works. The government will give support to make sure the project is successful.
