Hoodlums raid government warehouse in Abuja, steal food

—

On Sunday, some troublemakers broke into a government storage place in Gwagwa town, located in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). They stole food that was stored there.

Some people who live there said that young people broke into the warehouse around 7 am and took bags of maize and grain.

This stealing went on without anyone stopping it until 9 am when someone talked to a reporter.

One resident, Jaafar Aminu, said that many people from Gwagwa, Jiwa, and Karmo towns went to the warehouse to also take things.

Because of this, the road from Gwagwa to Karmo got very crowded, and it was hard for people to drive to Dei-Dei and Jabi. Aminu said he got hurt and had to leave the area.

Another resident, Christopher Agbo, said that the looters even took things that were supposed to protect the warehouse.

This is not the first time the warehouse got robbed. It also happened during the Covid-19 lockdown. Bags of grain and machines were stolen back then.

After they finished stealing from the government warehouse, the young people went to Idu Industrial Estate. There, they went to warehouses owned by people and the government.

At the time of writing this report, there were no police around to stop the stealing. But when they asked the FCT police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, she said that the police were there trying to stop the stealing.
