The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) recently spoke out about their concerns regarding the state of Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
They believe that the country is going through tough times, especially when it comes to security and the economy.
According to Lucius Ugorji, the president of CBCN, Nigeria is facing serious challenges in terms of security and economic stability.
Despite the government allocating large sums of money for security, there is still a rise in crimes like kidnapping and senseless violence.
This has led to a lot of fear and insecurity among citizens, with many communities being taken over by criminals.
The bishops also highlighted the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians. They mentioned that recent government reforms, such as the removal of fuel subsidies and changes in the foreign exchange market, have led to higher prices for essential goods and a decrease in the value of the national currency.
This has resulted in widespread poverty and suffering, with millions of Nigerians struggling to afford basic necessities like food and medicine.
Furthermore, the CBCN criticized the government for not doing enough to address corruption and improve accountability among public servants.
They mentioned various forms of corruption, including embezzlement and money laundering, which have had a detrimental impact on the country’s economy and the lives of its citizens.
“We cannot easily overlook the sordid roles of many fraudulent politicians and Bank Executives in fleecing the whole nation and destroying our national economy through the dirty game of corruption, causing untold hardship and untimely deaths across the nation.”
In light of these challenges, the CBCN called for sincere efforts from both the government and the public to work together towards a more secure and prosperous future for Nigeria.
They emphasized the importance of accountability and collective action in addressing the country’s problems and improving the lives of its people.
