Russian forces intercept Ukrainian drones and missiles days after assault on Kyiv

—

Russian air defenses intercepted Ukrainian drones in various regions, including Moscow, just a day after Kyiv reported the “largest drone attack” since Moscow invaded Ukraine in February last year.

The Russian Ministry of Defence stated on Sunday that air defense successfully destroyed four Ukrainian drones over the Bryansk, Smolensk, and Tula regions.

Russia also reported the downing of some drones over the Moscow region. Additionally, the Russian army claimed to have intercepted two Ukrainian missiles over the Sea of Azov, which is situated between the two countries.

In response, Ukraine asserted that its air defense had managed to down eight out of nine drones within its territory on the same day.

The previous day, Ukraine reported that Moscow had launched 75 drones into the country, primarily targeting the capital.

This drone attack coincided with Kyiv observing Holodomor, a tragic episode of Soviet-engineered starvation that claimed millions of Ukrainian lives during the Stalin era.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy characterized the assault as an act of “willful terror,” accusing the Russian leadership of taking pride in its ability to cause harm.

It’s worth noting that Ukraine has been utilizing drones to target Russian regions and the annexed Crimean Peninsula for months.

In a counteroffensive this summer, Ukraine aimed to push back Russian forces. The backdrop to this conflict includes Russia’s annexation of Crimea and its support for separatists in eastern Ukraine, following the overthrow of the pro-Moscow government of President Viktor Yanukovych in 2014 after a popular uprising.

For over a year and a half, Russia and Ukraine have been in a war, where both countries are attacking each other.

Sadly, during this time, more people in Ukraine are getting hurt or killed.

The situation is ongoing and has been happening for quite a long time, causing a lot of suffering, especially for the people in Ukraine.
