Bike rider dies in a collision with car

A fatal road traffic crash on Monday along Enugwu-Ukwu axis of Awka-Onitsha Old Road has claimed one life and injured another.

The crash which happened at about 9.32am, involved a purple coloured Toyota Camry with registration number KPP979PJ and a blue coloured commercial motorcycle with registration number UX28JJT.

A total of three adult males were involved in the crash including the driver of the Camry, the Motorcyclist and a passenger who sustained some degree of injury.
The bike rider identified as Okafor Chibuzor aged 26, was confirmed dead by doctors at Zion Hospital, where they were rushed to by some good Samaritan.
Confirming the incident, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, Pascal Anigbo said the corpse has been deposited in the morgue at the same hospital.

He attributed the cause of the crash to over-speeding and distracted driving, noting that the driver of the Toyota Camry has been handed over to the police, for further investigation.

“The FRSC Sector Commander, Anambra State, CC Andrew A. Kumapayi strongly warns drivers against driving above recommended speed limits. It is also important to drive and ride with maximum concentration devoid of any form of distraction on the wheels. He commiserates with the family of the dead and wishes the injured quick recovery,” Anigbo said.
