470 victims rescued from human trafficking in Katsina

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) shared a significant achievement, stating that in 2023, approximately 470 individuals who fell victim to human trafficking were rescued in Katsina. 

The NAPTIP Commander in the state, Musa Aliyu, conveyed this information to the press in Katsina on Saturday.

During the same period, the Katsina command successfully apprehended and prosecuted four human traffickers.

The NAPTIP Commander further highlighted that the command received reports on 25 cases related to human trafficking and two cases of Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP).

Within the span of 2023, the Katsina command not only rescued the mentioned 470 human trafficking victims but also facilitated their reunification with their respective families.

In preparation for the rehabilitation process, the NAPTIP Commander mentioned that they are expecting rehabilitation items from the NAPTIP headquarters.

In collaboration with the International Centre for Migration on Policy Development (ICMPD), NAPTIP organized enlightening sessions for border communities.

Additionally, the command, in partnership with the Katsina government, conducted awareness programs targeting Religious and Traditional leaders, as well as youths in Mai’adua, Baure, and Mashi Local Government Areas.

“We also carried out sensitisation programmes in conjunction with the Katsina government, for Religious and Traditional leaders, and also for youths in Mai’adua, Baure and Mashi Local Government Areas ,” he said.

The NAPTIP Commander disclosed that, through the ICMPD, the command successfully provided free medical treatment to over 80 victims of human trafficking in the state.

These efforts reflect a comprehensive approach to addressing the multifaceted challenges associated with human trafficking, involving rescue, prosecution, rehabilitation, and community awareness.
