24 Boko Haram Terrorists Killed as Troops Crush Attack on Kukareta in Yobe

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI under Sector 2 have successfully foiled a terrorist attack on Kukareta in Yobe State, killing at least 24 insurgents and recovering a large cache of weapons and ammunition.

The attack, which began shortly after midnight on April 23, 2026, lasted until about 3:00 a.m. but was met with a swift and coordinated response from the troops.

Military sources said the soldiers executed a strong offensive-defensive operation that forced the attackers into a disorganized retreat.

During the operation, troops recovered 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), two PKT anti-aircraft guns, three RPG tubes, two mortar tubes, and four hand grenades. Additional items recovered include 18 AK-47 magazines and a large quantity of 7.62mm ammunition.

The military confirmed that two personnel were wounded in action and have since been stabilized. An armoured tank deployed as reinforcement also sustained damage during the encounter, with all its tyres reportedly blown out.

Further exploitation of the area is ongoing, with troops tracking fleeing insurgents along withdrawal routes marked by blood trails and abandoned medical supplies.

The military described the operation as a major success, highlighting the resilience and combat readiness of troops in denying terrorists freedom of movement. It added that sustained offensive operations will continue across the North East to eliminate remaining terrorist elements.
