Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taunted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi over their presidential ambitions, declaring that neither politician will win the 2027 general elections.
Wike who made the remarks while speaking to journalists, said the prospects of the two opposition figures ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
Addressing Atiku and Obi, the minister said they should prepare themselves for another disappointment, warning that they would have cause to “start crying” after the election.
“They know, they should just start crying. If it’s this election against Tinubu, forget it. There’s no how any opposition can win. Forget any sentiment. Maybe one day when they put their acts together… but not this depleted opposition that i have helped to deplete. ” He added.
Wike’s comments come as Atiku and Obi emerge as two of the prominent figures in the opposition camp seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The FCT minister, who supported Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election after falling out with Atiku and the Peoples Democratic Party, has remained one of the President’s most vocal political allies.
Wike was one of the five PDP governors who formed the G5 ahead of the 2023 election and refused to support Atiku’s presidential bid.
He has subsequently maintained that the opposition figures have little chance of defeating Tinubu in 2027.
The minister has also repeatedly criticised the emerging opposition coalition involving Atiku, Obi and other political figures, questioning its ability to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress.
