2027: Remi Tinubu Reveals What She’ll Do If Tinubu Wins Again

The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has declared that she will wear a traditional wrapper and buba made from Akwete fabric if President Bola Tinubu secures a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during a visit to the Akwete Weaving Cooperative Village in Abia State on Tuesday, Mrs Tinubu also announced a N2 billion donation to revive the historic weaving industry and preserve the centuries-old craft.

“If God brings my husband in a second time, I’ll be wearing a buba and wrapper made from Akwete because it is very soft, breathable cotton,” she said.

The First Lady praised the cultural and historical significance of the renowned Akwete fabric, describing it as a symbol of Nigeria’s rich heritage that must be protected.

“I am in awe of all the richness of what the Akwete fabric stands for. I love traditional outfits because our tradition and culture tell us who we are. The moment we lose that, we won’t remember where we come from,” she said.

She noted that the weaving tradition had been handed down through generations, describing it as a sacred craft sustained by love, patience and endurance.

“The tradition of the Akwete handmade fabric is dear to the hearts of the women who make it, and they should be encouraged to pass it on to the next generation,” Mrs Tinubu added.

Her visit underscored the Federal Government’s efforts to promote indigenous industries, preserve Nigeria’s cultural heritage and empower women through traditional craftsmanship.
