2027 Elections: Peter Obi Defects to ADC, Vows to Fight Rigging

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), pledging to work with his supporters to prevent electoral fraud and manipulation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi made the announcement on Wednesday during a meeting with his supporters in Enugu, stating that the decision followed wide consultations and a careful assessment of Nigeria’s prevailing political realities.
He explained that the move was aimed at strengthening efforts to enthrone credible leadership through transparent, free, and fair elections.
According to the former Anambra State governor, the ADC offers a platform that aligns with his vision of good governance, democratic reforms, and people-oriented leadership. He said he and his supporters were determined to do “everything possible to check rigging and electoral manipulation” in future elections.
Obi urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to remain politically active and committed to peaceful participation in the democratic process, stressing that democracy can only be sustained through vigilance and collective action.
He also called for unity among like-minded political actors, noting that the task of rebuilding Nigeria goes beyond party affiliation and personal ambition. Obi assured his supporters that his core political ideology anchored on accountability, transparency, and economic prudence remains unchanged.
Political observers say Obi’s defection to the ADC could reshape political alignments ahead of the 2027 polls, as supporters and stakeholders assess the implications of the move on Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
