2027: APC in Trouble in the North— Baba-Ahmed Flags Fatal Strategy Flaws

Former presidential adviser on political matters, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has warned that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is losing its grip on the North, describing the ruling party’s 2027 election strategy as Fundamentally flawed.

Speaking on Arise News on Thursday, monitored by The News Chronicle, Baba-Ahmed said the APC’s growing confidence, driven by high-profile defections, does not translate to electoral victory, particularly in the North and other parts of the country.

“The APC strategy is fundamentally flawed,” he said, warning that the party’s focus on recruiting politicians rather than fixing the country could backfire at the polls.

Baba-Ahmed argued that the North should not insist on controlling the next four years, noting that such a stance could weaken the opposition and strengthen President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He also cautioned that a return to the race by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could further complicate the opposition’s chances, potentially leaving former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi politically isolated.

According to Baba-Ahmed, the ruling party is “not only in trouble in the North but across the country,” accusing the APC of neglecting governance while obsessing over the 2027 elections.

He further lamented the worsening security situation, pointing out that despite widespread displacement caused by insecurity, the South-West has no IDP camps, a situation he said reflects the APC government’s failure to protect and support citizens.
