2023 AFCON: Nigeria to open AFCON campaign against Equatorial Guinea

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will begin their campaign for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations against Equatorial Guinea on the 14th of January 2024 at exactly 2 p.m. 

The confirmation was made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after Nigeria was drawn in group A alongside host Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau last night at Abidjan, the state capital of the Ivory Coast where the 34th edition of the tournament will be hosted.

The Central Africa has faced Nigeria three times and has never won any game over the Super Eagles.

On 18 January, the Eagles will go into a stringent encounter with the host Côte d’Ivoire at 5 p.m.

Nigeria will finish its group A games when they play Guinea-Bissau on 22 January at 5 p.m.

The Super Eagles who are currently in Portugal took their final session of training in preparation for their international friendly games against the Falcons of Saudi Arabia today. As the preparation for AFCON and World Cup continues, they will also face Zimbabwe a week later.
