Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has revealed that out of the 5.9 million people projected to face severe humanitarian conditions in the North-East, two million are from Yobe State.
Speaking on Thursday at the official launch of the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) at the United Nations House in Abuja, Governor Buni, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, reiterated the state’s commitment to the protection, welfare, and future of children.
“No child would be left behind or exposed to harm, even amid protracted humanitarian challenges facing the region,” he stated.
Governor Buni acknowledged the pressing humanitarian needs and called for sustained, coordinated, and locally driven action.
He emphasized that Yobe State is advancing its Durable Solutions Agenda through the State Action Plan on Solutions to Internal Displacement, aiming to shift from emergency response to long-term recovery, resilience, and development.
He further reaffirmed the state’s readiness to strengthen coordination, promote accountability, and ensure that humanitarian action aligns with development and peacebuilding efforts.
