At least 18 farmers have been killed and several others injured following a late-night attack on Kawel village in Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack, which occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, was confirmed on Monday by Bokkos youth leader, Christopher Luka.
He said armed assailants stormed the community and opened fire on residents, leaving more than 20 people shot, with 18 deaths confirmed.
Luka described the assault as sudden and unprovoked and said security operatives in Bokkos had been alerted and were responding to the incident.
The latest attack comes days after the killing of the District Head of Gwande, Saf Samuel Alaket, who was ambushed near the Daffo community while returning from a council meeting.
As of the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Police Command and Operation Enduring Peace had yet to issue an official statement.
The incident has heightened concerns over the persistent insecurity affecting communities in Plateau State.
