17-Year Old Student Dies After Alleged Bullying at Yobe School

A 17-year-old Senior Secondary School 3 student, Hassan Ahmadu, of Government Science and Technical College, Potiskum, Yobe State, has reportedly died following an alleged bullying incident involving his fellow students.
The incident happened on Sunday at the school in Potiskum Local Government Area. According to a family source, Hassan was buried the same day in his hometown of Gadaka, Fika Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that Hassan was attacked by some of his classmates under circumstances that are yet to be fully explained.
Confirming the incident, the Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the student’s death.
“Yes, we are aware of the incident, and an investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain what led to the death of the student,” Abdulkarim said.
A teacher at the school, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Hassan had been bullied for some time. According to the teacher, the situation escalated on Sunday when Hassan asked the students to stop, but they refused and attacked him.
“They beat him badly, and he later died. The whole school was shocked by what happened,” the teacher said.
The teacher added that the school authorities have handed over the students suspected to be involved to the police, stressing that investigations are ongoing to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
