Babagana Umara Zulum on Tuesday witnessed the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Congress in Borno State, where new executive members emerged through consensus, in what was described as a peaceful and transparent exercise.
The congress, held at the defunct Kashim Ibrahim College of Education in Maiduguri, had 1,560 accredited delegates in attendance. The exercise, chaired by Mr. Jones Erue, produced 38 executive committee members who will manage the affairs of the party in the state for the next four years.
Addressing delegates and stakeholders, Governor Zulum declared that the All Progressives Congress remains the “workhorse” of Nigerian politics and is well-positioned to secure victories in future elections both in Borno State and nationwide.
“APC remains the workhorse and, Insha Allah, the only party that will win all elections not only in Borno State but also in Nigeria,” the governor stated.
He noted that the consensus emergence of the State Executive members reflected the unity within the party in Borno, describing the state chapter as one of the most cohesive in the country.
“Today’s election has shown that Borno State operates a unified system within our party hierarchy. We have no division in our party,” he added.
Zulum also acknowledged the support of Vice President Kashim Shettima, crediting him with laying a solid foundation for the APC in the state.
The governor congratulated the newly elected executives and assured them of continued government support.
He emphasized that former party officials from state to ward levels would remain relevant within the party structure as ex officio members and would be assigned additional responsibilities in recognition of their contributions.
“We will not allow anybody without the required capacity to come and take over the affairs of the party. The party will remain resolute under my leadership and, Insha Allah, we shall succeed,” Zulum affirmed.
The APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, said stakeholders agreed to adopt consensus in line with the party’s constitutional guidelines.
Speaking on behalf of the new executives, State Chairman Hon. Bello Ayuba thanked Governor Zulum for his strategic leadership and pledged to run the party’s affairs with accountability and transparency.
The congress was attended by former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff; Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Tahir Monguno; Senators Mohammed Ali Ndume and Kaka Shehu Lawan; former deputy governors; members of the House of Representatives and State Assembly; commissioners; party officials; stakeholders; and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
