13 Hostages Regain Freedom as Troops Crush Terrorists in Zamfara

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 13 kidnapped victims during separate intelligence-led operations in Zamfara State, dealing another blow to terrorist groups operating in the region.

In a statement made available to The News Chronicle, the task force said troops of Sector 2 in Bagega launched a swift operation after receiving credible intelligence on armed terrorists riding motorcycles toward Tungan Kudaduku in Anka Local Government Area.

Backed by real-time surveillance, the troops tracked and engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, forcing them to flee under heavy fire. A follow-up search uncovered a makeshift terrorist camp, where five kidnapped civilians were rescued unharmed.

In a separate operation at Ungwan Rogo in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, troops responded to intelligence on terrorist activities and engaged the fleeing gunmen in a fierce firefight. The terrorists retreated, abandoning eight kidnapped victims, who were subsequently rescued. Troops also recovered two vehicles from the scene.

The military said all 13 rescued victims have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for medical attention and other necessary support.

It added that troops have continued to dominate the operational area, maintaining sustained pressure on terrorist groups and denying them freedom of movement across the North-West theatre.
