1.8 million Gazans pushed into airport-sized space as Israeli troops advance

As Israeli forces intensify their ground operation, more than 1.8 million Palestinians are left with no option but to move to an airport-sized area amidst the growing threat of famine and disease.

The situation in Gaza is tense as heavy fighting is ongoing across Gaza.

Reports have shown that Israeli tanks are closing in on three areas: Khan Younis in the south and Jabalia and Shuja’iya in the north, where hundreds of thousands of civilians are located.

As of now, The head of UNRWA confirmed that over 600,000 people are under evacuation orders in southern Gaza, with shelters over capacity. Israel urged civilians to move to Rafah or al-Mawasi, but concerns are raised about the adequacy of these locations, with Unicef mentioning them as “tiny patches of land” without water or shelter.

According to Hamas-run health ministry more than 73 deaths and over 100 injuries in central Gaza in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile,138 hostages are still being held in Gaza with many of the victims’ families putting pressure on the government for their release and calling on the international community for help.

Though the Israeli military designated al-Mawasi as a safe space for evacuees, many critics have said its small size is unsuitable for accommodating the displaced population, especially with the risk of diseases.

The World Health Organization (WHO) chief called it a “recipe for disaster” due to its overcrowded conditions and inadequate infrastructure.
